NICET has defined various activities which are considered appropriate CPD and has assigned CPD points to these activities. 90 CPD points are required within the three year period to maintain the certification in a current statue. In summary, the required 90 points can come from the following categories:
In 1996, NICET instituted a Re-certification Program which is defined by NICET Policy 30. In essence, the Re-certification Program was designed to demonstrate and document that individuals certified in a given specialty area are keeping current by participating in a series of professional development activities. Therefore, NICET certifications issued after January 1, 1999 are only effective for a three year period. To maintain a certification in an active state, the certificant must either attest or submit documentation that they have engaged in appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities during the previous three year period.
The Advance Profession category has several sub-categories for CPD point accumulation.
A side benefit will be the active involvement with your peers which you will find most rewarding. This is an excellent way to inform the public about the contributions you make as a certified engineering technician or technologist to their health, safety, and welfare. It also provides you with an opportunity to guide students in the profession you have found to be so beneficial.
