A position is currently available for a Hub Technician responsible for the provision of day to day operations and maintenance of the ISBN hub facility. The Hub Technician will perform corrective and preventative maintenance on digital and analog equipment and services; networking hardware; IF and RF hardware; server and other computer equipment such as equipment used for the storage of digital video. This position will also interact with engineering personnel during the implementation of new services. The Hub Technician will be required to provide remote field service support for existing and future Telesat services including VSAT, and point to point services.
Qualifications
- Electronics Engineering Technology Associate Degree, or the equivalent, and a minimum of 1 to 3 years of related work experience.
- Operational experience in the implementation and maintenance of core IP systems.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, SNA, LAN/WAN and Ethernet.
- Familiar with interconnection of Ethernet devices and simple network architecture.
- Experience with telecommunications test equipment.
- Familiar with Microsoft based operating systems, applications and tools.
- Ability to demonstrate troubleshooting skills and work independently to prioritize the resolution of events.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience interacting directly with the customer and contractors.
- Previous experience with Hughes Network Systems (HNS) VSAT Hub's would be an asset.
- Familiar with complex IP networks, routing protocols, VPN technology, and RF equipment would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of UNIX is an asset.
